Artist Statement

My work seeks to investigate the ways in which the character and emotions of an individual can be captured through portraiture. To better understand the visual and tactile quality of various mediums, as well as their ability to bring out the character and emotions of my subject matter, I have explored a wide range of mediums including oil paint, charcoal, glue and textured cloths. My process of experimentation primarily involves mixing and overlapping these mediums together, paying close attention to their colours, texture and form. The spontaneity and unpredictability of my experiments' results has become a major driving force of my creative process. Through this investigation, my boundaries and perspective towards art have been pushed, allowing me to create more conceptually interesting and playful works.
